Reports viewing problem
October 25, 2017 06:37PM
Dear Robert Hudson:
I downloaded version 2018 without giving much thought. Now the view reports don't
work in Spanish, I don't know about English. I can view and print the Assignment
sheets. But I can't view the Program reports. I would imagine that the newer templates
for 2018 haven't been installed.

Is there a way to return to version 2017 so I can finish out the year with
the same report formats?

Thanks.

Hi Ruben, please email me with specific details of what report isn't working. The 2018 version should be able to run 2017 dates.

Thanks

The Schedule (all formats) and Chairmans Outline in spanish. When I select preview, it just goes away.
Assignment slips are the only ones that will produce after I select preview.
I am working on Novembers schedule, but when I go back to other months, they don't work either.
They were working fine about two weeks ago.
Thanks.

In Word click File >> Options >> Trust Center >> Trust Center Settings

click Trust Access to the VBA object model

I am a 1st time user for the program. It seems very detailed and user friendly. But, even after following your instructions about clicking the Trust Access to the VBA object model, I still can only view and print assignment slips. Is there anything else that you think it could be?

In settings, under "File Block Settings" make sure Rich-Text .rtf is not blocked

It is not blocked. Any other ideas?

Look in the folder %appdata%\clm explorer and double-click one of the newly generated tmpSomething.rtf files

Does it open?

Hi Ruben,

Maybe this will help. When I preview assignment slips they open in a PDF format and I can view them immediately. When I click preview for any other .rtf report, a Word icon appears in my bottom tool bar. I just click that icon and it opens up. It does not open automatically.

Hi Rob,
I've been having the same problem.....

"In Word click File >> Options >> Trust Center >> Trust Center Settings

click Trust Access to the VBA object model" - this didn't seem to work.

"In settings, under "File Block Settings" make sure Rich-Text .rtf is not blocked" - sorry. I couldn't find settings in either Word or CLM Explorer?

"Look in the folder %appdata%\clm explorer and double-click one of the newly generated tmpSomething.rtf files" - this worked, file opened ok.

So now? Do I go to the above folder each time I preview, or is there something else I can do?

Thanks for the great program Rob

Hi Rob,

Tried this as well, which I found from another forum post -

"Open Windows Control Panel
Search for Default Programs
Choose "Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program"
find ".rtf"
Change Program...
Choose Word (or whatever word processor you have)"

However, Word was already the default.
Nothing happens, nothing in the tray at bottom of screen....

Here is a screenshot of what I have in my %appdata%\clm explorer folder:

Are there any files in excess to them in the folder? Especially look out for these ones...

If there are excess ones, try deleting them... perhaps they are interfering with the system...?

Thanks Simon, there were no Word files in there.
Which I found strange as I have set Word to be the default program to open rtf files.

Hi Tony,

Forgive me, but have you downloaded the latest CLME from the website HERE?

Thanks Simon,

I downloaded the latest version as you suggested.

When I clicked on Preview an error box presented saying error #31 no association for file extension, Line number 0, ShellExecute

It suggested a live update, did that.

When I exited the error box however, the word doc. preview displayed ......

I did this a few times with same result.

Hi Tony. First of all, go into Windows Explorer Options >> View tab

UNCHECK "Hide extensions for known file type"

This will make things a bit less confusing - you will see the .rtf extensions

Right-click the .rtf files and click Open With and choose Word and'always use this'

Thanks Rob,

Your quick response is appreciated, but it's been hectic here so sorry for my tardy reply.

That box had not been checked to begin with.....

I went to some rtf files and did as you said, which worked fine!

However when I want to send those files to others I still seem to have to 'save as' Word file. Is there a way to automatically save as Word from the program?

Hi Tony. I'm really sorry, but this would be nearly impossible to do reliably.

The first problem is security, Word by default is locked down tighter than Fort Knox.

Secondly, there are many version of the Word object model dll, so what works on one user's pc won't work on different pc's running older versions of Office.

So there is no easy way for CLME to manipulate a Word template and insert the weekly variables. RTF is possible because it's a text file.

Sorry!!

I wonder if this would be a practical solution... since 2007 a Word document (such as .docx or .dotx) is an XML file inside a regular zip file. You can open it with the command-line version of 7-zip, find and replace text like placeholder values, and zip it back up to a document that will open in Word, without using the object model or running Word at all.
